Since I updated krita in the newest vesion, the overview is a lighter color than the actual canvas. When I save the image the colors saved are the ones on the overview; which I can't access or see clearly during the painting process. This makes all of my paintings way lighter than I expected.

Please show a screenshot including the full Krita window. Your description doesn't really make anything very clear, but I suspect that you choose a linear colorspace for this image.
