When moving out/in the viewport at start, it switches to the brush preset that was previously active during the last session.
Only when using a pen tablet (Intuos 4 - Ubuntu 14.04, Unity - Krita 4.2.0 pre-alpha and v3.3.3) :

1. fresh configs + start
2. note the active brush preset
3. pick a different brush preset
4. restart
5. move out/in the viewport (or just lift the pen)

Actual Results: brush preset switches to the previously active during the last session
Expected Results: do not switch the brush preset

I don't use Ubuntu and I can't duplicate this problem:

I'm not certain but I seem to remember that the selected brush preset doesn't become fully 'active' until you use it to make a brush stroke. (This is from an observation and assumption I made a long time ago so I may be wrong.) Can you try making a brush stroke with the newly selected brush preset before you quit and restart?

4. restart
5. just lift the pen
