Hi!
I just downloaded Krita and I'm hooked! I was wondering how can you add text to one frame only? If I add text with text tool it creates new layer and that text is going to show on every frame. I bet there is simple fix, but noob like me can't really figure it out ![]() |

Text is put on vector layers, and vector layers aren't animatable yet, so that isn't possible, I'm afraid.

Oh, people tell me you can use an opacity keyframe, so it doesn't get shown in other frames...

How would that work? |

Add opacity keyframes in the animation docker. You can further tweak them with the animation curves docker.

I can't really use opacity key frames. I can add new layer, but don't really realise how to change settings with it. Can't seem to open that red curve thing which is in your link... And even if I create oppacity keyframe how do I put text on it since text tool still make new vector layer when used. Sorry for asking so many questions. I started using this program just yestarday so I'm really beginner

I'd like to suggest an 'easy way'. You can have a paint layer for text 'images' that is animated as usual and you can create text in a vector layer then convert it to a paint layer (not part of the animation). You then copy the paint layer image of the text to frame(s) of the aminated paint layer as required.
I'm assuming you want to make simple captions that will appear/disappear and vary a few times throughout the animation. |

Is there some trick to add text to video like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HXMYm4k6w0

It's not difficult but you need to learn the basic animation skills first. No 'tricks', just a learning curve and hard work.

Well I already managed to learn some basics and made one minute long animation. I just can't figure out how to put text on one frame only and not to be rude or anything, but your post didn't really help at all... ![]() Clear instructions would be helpful ![]()

It would make this page look less cluttered if you removed the copy of my animation that you posted.
My animation was meant to be a demonstrative and amusing encouragement to learn. As a matter of interest, why do you want to put text on one frame only? It wouldn't last very long and may not be even noticed. My initial reply to your post said how to do it. Convert the text (vector) layer to a paint layer, then you have an image that can be incorporated into an existing animated paint layer. It's all pictures that you manipulate and move around using the basic technical animation techniques. Use Create Duplicate Frame on the newly created and selected text-image layer to bring the text-picture into the timeline then Copy to Clipboard then use Paste from Clipboard to put it somewhere in the main animation layer. |

I finally managed to do what I wanted. Thanks for everyone for answers, but especially for ahabgreybeard who gave solution that even beginner like me whose first language is not english can (eventually) understand!

Before you made this post with your initial question, I'd never tried making animated text so I decided to figure out how to do it. It's not immediately obvious but it was quite easy and fun to do. So, thank you for asking the question in the first place.
What would be good now, would be for you to render it out (I'd suggest an animated .gif for a simple animation) then post it to a storage site like Imgur. Then you could post it here. A size of 512 x 512 (or smaller) seems to be convenient. A frame rate of 6 fps is good enough for this kind of animation if you don't have detailed moving characters. I included mine in my post by typing as follows: ["img"]https://i.imgur.com/rgxp0t5.gif[/"img"] The quote marks are to stop it from displaying the image in your browser in this reply. Remove the quote marks to display the image. You would replace the imgur link shown with the link to your own image/animation. Good Luck! ![]() |
