Brush Duplication

Tue Nov 06, 2018 2:28 am
-I tested creating a new brush some days ago.

-This morning there are around three brushes duplication of the new brush.

-Some duplicate has different thumbnail.

-Some shows with the name like "BrushName.autobackup.kpp" etc.. like that

-I can't delete the brushes instantly. Some can only be deleted after restarting Krita or It won't go away even if I kept clicking Delete Button.

I hope those bugs will be resolved under new Resource Management rewrite

btw, did Krita logs when it crashes suddenly ?
I want to report but I don't have error logs.

Hi gui-m,
what is your Krita version and OS ("Help > "Show system informations for bug reports...")?
If your Krita is <4.1.5 then I'd check with the latest version.
If you're a Windows user and want to create a backtrace: https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html ... on-windows

Hi, when I started playing with brushes and created new ones, Krita gave me a lot of headache. That's until I learned how the brush creation works inside Krita.

Basically, Krita doesn't delete brushes(brush presets), it creates a backup of it instead in the %AppData%/Krita/paintoppresets folder- the .kpp are the brush presets for individual brushes. I just manually delete the .kpp files for the unwanted brushes while Krita is off. The problem with this is sometimes it hides the brush that you created or desired even if the .kpp file for that brush exists in the right folder. That is because, Krita had this %AppData%/Krita/kis_paintoppresets.blacklist file that makes listed brushies hidden. You'll find that the brush in question is listed inside and if you remove it inside or just delete the kis_paintoppresets.blacklist file, you'll be able to see it again inside Krita.

Another thing that may mystify you to no end are bundles, when you start using bundles that had brushies inside, it can get confusing as there are some sort of backing up behavior going on in the bundles. For me I find, keeping the blacklist files clean and manually deleting files more manageable and predictable when managing your brushes or other resources. I just backup the %AppData%/Krita/ folder from time to time so I have a restore point, in case everything goes haywire.
