Krita Brush Info

Mon Dec 10, 2018 12:16 am
I recently wrote a program that reads a Krita brush paintoppreset configuration (.kpp) file and displays the brush parameters in a readable form. It reads the metadata from the 200 x 200 .kpp files, which are really PNG files. It can also find the .kpp files in resource bundles. It can compare two brushes and show the differences. This can be useful for seeing the structure of the brush parameters and to easily compare the differences between two brushes. It is easier to compare brushes this way than by hunting through the brush properties dialog in Krita, but it is not as pretty. It also may help you to understand how Krita brushes work. (It did for me.)

It is a C# program and designed for Windows. I understand it is possible to run C# on Linux, but I have no experience doing so. It is Open Source and available on Github.

See the Overview, including a screenshot, at http://kenevans.net/opensource/KritaBrushInfo/Help/Overview.html for more information.

You also have to install ExifTool by Paul Harvey. It is used to read the EXIF information in the .kpp preset file. This is free software and easy to install; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the same terms as Perl, which it uses. The links are in the Overview (above) or go to https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/.
