I am trying to make an animated brush. I can find very little info on this topic. I have all my layers with my brush images on them. Now I need to isolate the layers, I guess, in order to be able to do the next steps in animating the brush. But how to isolate the layers so that all the layers show up? Anyone? Thanks.

Export the image as a .gih file. Every layer will become a stamp. Note that Krita's gih export is a bit limited: not all the features that gimp has are supported.
