When opening any kind of Krita dialogue window, a dark overlay is applied to the main Krita window. For instance, if I right click on a layer in the layers view -> add -> filter mask, the filter mask creation dialogue is opened and the dark overlay appears. I would like to disable this dark overlay, or in some other way be able to open various controls without showing the dark overlay. I would like to do this because otherwise it is very difficult to see what colours I am applying with filters etc. To be clear, I want to be able to adjust filter settings while seeing the actual colours, not a darkened variant.

Is there a setting to disable the dark overlay? Some other workaround?

I am running Krita 4.1.7 with the Krita Dark theme on KDE Neon.

This is not a feature of Krita, but of KWin, the Plasma window manager. You must have noticed it happens for any dialog in any application, and it's one of the most questionable defaults in KWin. You can disable it in the desktop effects section of the KWin settings dialog.

Ah, thank you very much! I found the setting, it was called "Dialog Parent". Now everything works how I want it.

I did actually try opening what I thought were dialog windows in a couple of applications to test this, but I guess those did not count as dialogues, since I didn't see the effect.
