Hello, im really struggling with the animation tool, I have read and watch several tutorial, but i cant get it to work.
I have a 4 frame animation that I imported as a 4 layer pictures. I want to edit it What I have tried is : making a new layer, create an empty frame (on the timeline) then copy/ paste the content of one of my layer into the new layer with the empty frame selected. But it just create another layer. (I have tried the same thing with creating an empty file) If I create multiple frames I can draw into them but i cannot paste my existing layer into them. |

Hi,
OR, duplicate the whole layer if you need:

I think your situation is that you don't have a 4-frame animation, you have four independent images, in separate layers, that you'd like to make into the frames of an animation.
Krita can't copy/paste content between image layers and animation layers. They seem to be kept as separate 'zones'. An image layer has the lightbulb icon greyed out on the timeline and an animation layer has it showing solid/black. The usual way to make an animation layer is to do right-click -> Create Blank Frame on frame-0 of the Timeline then the layer will become animated and you'll have a blank animation. If you do right-click -> Create Duplicate Frame on frame-0 of the Timeline, this will duplicate any existing image content (in the image layer) and make it into frame-0 of the resulting animation layer. That is a way of converting an image layer into an animation layer with a single frame content. Having done that, on the Timeline you can use the right-click -> Copy to Clipboard and Paste from Clipboard commands to copy that newly created frame-0 to any frame of your final animation layer. If you have external image files, these can be imported into an animation layer with the File -> Import Animation Frames command. |
