Hi. I've been using Krita for a few months, & the past couple of days, I've been having a lot of problems with it. The program is lagging severely & if I have my browser running in the background, my browser slows down quite a bit, even after I close Krita. A couple of days ago, I was also having an issue whenever I would open my project file, I would find that my frames had been modified even though all of the layers were locked. And I spent a good chunk of my time fixing all the broken frames. I tried un-installing & re-installing the program, & I wasn't having that issue anymore. But then, the program started lagging even worse, & now, the animation playback does not work at all. If I try to play my animation, it stays stuck on one frame. And the arrow keys do not work, either. If I want to flip through my frames, I have to click on each individual frame on the timeline, & they take a while to load. And sometimes, they will not load until I click outside of the canvas. This also happens whenever I try to zoom in or zoom out or scroll around the image. Basically, nothing will appear on my screen the way it's supposed to until I click outside of the canvas. And my brush is lagging so bad that I cannot even make a single stroke. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the program several times, but it does not help.

I have been searching through the forums all day today but have had no luck. The whole situation is really frustrating & I have barely been able to get anything done. I have a MAP (Multi Animator Project) part that's due tomorrow, & I need this fixed ASAP. Has anyone had issues like this with Krita before, & does anyone know how to resolve them?

Uninstalling and reinstalling the same version of krita doesn't actually change anything so I'm surprised that it seemed to do anything the first time you tried it. The only situation where is would have an effect is if your hard drive was sick and the old installation had become corrupted in some way.

If these problems only started a couple of days ago, what happened a couple of days ago? Did you install a different version of krita? Have you had any updates to your OS? Have you installed any new softare and/or have you added any new hardware to your computer? Have you tried turning off any existing anti-virus or Windows Defender (assuming you're using Windows and don't download anything during this time)?

Which OS and which version of krita are you using? Do any other 'significant' applications, such as Microsoft Office, Libre Office, etc. show any problems when you use them?

I'm honestly still not sure what happened. But I did update my OS a few days ago. So, that was probably it. Because I was so desperate, I decided to try uninstalling & reinstalling Krita one more time; Only this time, I decided to try restarting my computer before reinstalling. And surprisingly, it worked. However, I've noticed that if my file size exceeds 2.1 GiB, then Krita starts lagging rather severely & then crashes after a few minutes. And my browser still slows down quite a bit whenever I have Krita open. I really am not sure what is going on.

You also posted your problem/question on ask.krita.org where Wolthera has suggested that you try reenabling Graphics Acceleration. Have you tried that?

When you say "... if my file size exceeds 2.1 GiB ...", I assume that you mean the image size in RAM as noted on the krita status bar and not the size of your .kra file as saved on disk? How much RAM does your computer have? If you go to Settings -> Configure Krita -> Performance -> General tab, you'll see the memory limit allocated to krita. If this is 2GB then that could explain your problems (or some of them). The Windows OS needs about 1GB of RAM and your Windows Task Manager will tell you how much RAM your browser/etc is using and you can do the arithmetic. Increase krita's RAM allocation if you can (and maybe don't use your browser at the same time) and that may help.

If it's your .kra file that's 2.1GB in size then that really does point to you running out of RAM because a 2.1GB .kra file will try to expand to something really big in RAM and krita will go very swappy and you may have to look at the size of your krita swap file, etc. Since you're working on an animation project, that could be the case so how big is your animation - RAM size, image size, layers, frames?

Apart from any possible tweaks and adjustments that may or may not help, it could be that your animation project has hit the limits of your computer's ability to support it.

EDIT: P.S. I've just read your other post and realise that it is your .kra file that is 2.1GB in size.
