I've tried installing 4.2.0 several times, it installs fine but won't open. Version 4.1.7 works correctly.

This is something that is specific to your system, of course. Please try the following:

* Get the portable zip version, not the installer, and copy the contents to your desktop
* Reset your krita configuration and try again (https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html ... figuration)
* If Krita still crashes on start-up, please try to make a crash log: https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_man ... ml#dr-minw

I have tried the portable version of 4.2.0 and it won't launch either
There isn't a kritarc file in %LOCALAPPDATA%
It doesn't appear to be creating a kritacrash log file

I get the impression it quits almost immediately after launching

This is my daughter's PC so I've installed 4.1.7 for now which works fine
