Can't really say how Windows 10 was installed as I bought the machine second hand from a reputable local company and they upgraded it from W7. I've had no software issues at all with it over the past couple of years, and it's still the case that Krita 4.1.7 runs fine. If there's any other test you would like me to run then please let me know. I could try installing W7 in a virtual PC.

You had two systems, right? One Windows 7 and one Windows 10?
I did test using Windows 7 in Virtual Box and found I had to boot it in safe mode, install the guess additions with the experimental direct3d support enabled, then reboot; then Krita worked on that VM. You could run dxdiag and check in the display tab whether there is direct3d support. If there isn't, there's a problem with the installation. |

Okay, so that one does have up-to-date drivers. Any interesting output from debugview? And if you follow https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_man ... ml#dr-minw, you should be able to get more information about the crash, too, in a proper crash log.
Edit: though only level d3d 10? That might still be the problem. |

Okay, I think I know all that we need to know to fix it, and I've assigned the bug to Dmitry and given it the highest priority. As soon as he has fixed it, I will make a new release.

Please everyone with this problem, test https://yadi.sk/d/hYmCyIFpfkr1CQ -- it's a special build that should enable software rendering if there are no usable drivers.

@boudewijn I have the same problem on my old laptop with first-generation Intel HD Graphics, and your special build works on it.

Before you brought this version out, I was trying each past version to find out where the regression was, so I can confirm that version 4.1.7 works runs without issue, so should I continue using that are there advantages with the version you are asking us to test?

Well, we're trying to find a general solution, so we need to know which builds work for you. If they work for you, they will also have new features, bug fixes and performance improvements over 4.1.7 |

OK, I will try your prealpha version, I have unzipped it, have double clicked the krita app in bin folder, and returns message will not run on this pc.

Even with Krita's configuration completely reset? And you're getting the same debugview output?
|
![]() Registered Member ![]()
|
Not sure what you mean by configuration reset, what I have done is uninstalled the last version 4.1.7 and just clicking on the Krita application icon within the bin folder, both versions return a message "this app can't run on your pc, no output is captured in debugview.
