Hi Fine Folks...
Is there a way to access the full list of available blending modes, and scroll through them using the up and down arrows? (I'm wanting similar functionality to how Photoshop does this.) For instance, say I've popped a texture image onto a layer. And I want to see which blend mode works best for it. I want to be able to select whatever bland mode is at the top of the list, and then press the down arrow to see what the next one does, all the way to the bottom of the list. As things stand, I can only scroll through a seemingly arbitrary set of blend modes. Firstly, it's not the entire list. Secondly, it's not even the ones I've chosen as my favourites. Thirdly, if I get to the end of the list, it seems to scroll through the last three or four modes only from that point on. Fourthly, if I use the up arrow, it scrolls through an entirely different arbitrary list of modes. This is extremely confusing behaviour. And it's really not optimal. For instance, I randomly stumbled on the GRAIN MERGE blend mode by using the up arrow. But to find it again, I had to methodically tap on the arrow next to each category of blend mode, until I found it in the miscellaneous category. There's no way to KNOW where it is, cos there doesn't seem to be a way to see ALL blend modes. Am I missing something obvious? If not, is there a non-obvious way of doing this? If not, is there a future plan to get something like this functionality into a new release? That would be pretty cool. Thanks for your attention. Blue skies Roy |

The "seemingly random list" is the subset of favourite blending modes, which you can change yourself.
You can see the full list of blending modes here: https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_man ... modes.html The arrow keys should move through all blending modes, that it doesn't probably is a bug, either in Qt, or in our own code. |

The Favourites group is at the top of the group list and it's easy to add/remove modes from it by ticking/unticking the box for a particular blend mode. It's initially populated with a small set to get you started. After that, it's up to you to manage it.
You can open every blend mode group list and leave it open for rapid 'scanning' of all blend modes. These groups will remain open until krita is Quit and restarted. The keyboard up/down arrows will move through and highlight the blend modes but only those which have opened groups. If a group is closed, you have to give an extra arrow press to get through it to the next open group. However, you can only select a blend mode for application by clicking on it or by pressing the Return key when the blend mode is highlighted. If this is done, the blend mode list display is closed. When the blend modes are opened again, the active blend mode is highlighted but this is not the case if the blend mode group is closed (obviously) and it's not the case when the active blend mode is in the favourites group. Improvements could be made: 1. Provide a search box at the bottom of the window so you can find Grain Merge (or whatever) again. 2. Have a blend mode become selected/active when it is highlighted so you can move through them to see the effects. 3. Do not close the list until a blend mode is clicked on or Return is pressed (in assistance of point 2). 4. Have the active blend mode highlighted (if its group is open) when the list is opened including when it's in the Favourites group. note: I'm not sure how that should be dealt with if the blend mode is in the opened Favourites group and it's parent group is also opened. 5. Have the group open/closed status saved between krita sessions so you don't need to open them all again if required. The next stage is for you to raise a bug report here: https://bugs.kde.org/ with an Importance of 'Wishlist'. (EDITED to correct an oversight. The selected blend mode is highlighted when you open the list but not if it's in the Favourites group/list.) |
