If I go to File/Create copy from current image, it makes, what I think is a workable copy of the current image with all it's layers and everything else.
But undo does not work at all in this copy! ![]() Undo doesn't work with filters, brushes, cropping, cutting, or anything. What's going on? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

The Undo history doesn't get copied over when you create a copy. It starts new for that image.
Maybe if you make any required Undo actions on the original before copying it? |

Thanks for your help and reply ahabgreybeard. That would be great if it started a new undo history. But what happens, when I make the duplicate, is it doesn't start a new undo history at all. Nothing new can be undone at all. What I'm trying to do is Look at the original and say "hmm I wonder what would happen if I add a little blue here..." so I make a duplicate, try it out, and if I like it proceed from there.
But in the duplicate, no new undo history is started. Everything I do is permanent. |

This is strange because I've tried it with versions 4.1.7 and 4.2.5 on both Linux and on Windows 10 and it behaves as I described. The File-Copy image has a fresh Undo history and the Undo function works after performing operations on it, as a separate independent thing from the original image. I also tried reducing the number of Undo levels to 3 and noted that the original and the copy each had 3 levels of Undo available to them.
What OS and which version of krita are you using? Are you well within your RAM allowance? Is there anything 'notable' about your image such as it's very large, it uses 32-bit floating CMYK/A or whatever? Can you try this again but using a freshly made and simple test image, which is what I did? Can you provided your .kra file via a download link, if that's acceptable to you? |

I can check all those things in the couple hours. I'll return with the info. Thanks for the help.

Krita version: 4.0.1
Windows 10 64 bit Didn't check memory allowance 32GB available Using create copy from current image Used both RGB and CMYK Alpha (didn't check on 32-bit float options) My file that brought me here was huge. 6000 x 6000 x 600 ppi Second try just now was 800 x 800 x 300 ppi with just a few scribbles. Okay so the results: Undo was frozen again on the new fresh smaller image. I'm using an outdated version of Krita. I'm downloading and installing the new version now. I hope it works. I wouldn't mind at all if undo was frozen at the time of copy... just wish new undo could be created. |

YESSSS! Thank you ahabgreybeard for getting me looking at a newer version! It works now.
But, did you say that you had full undo history of your copy? Like if you did a couple scribbles, and then copied, could you undo those. Mine is frozen at time of copy, but I'm totally okay with that ![]() ![]() |

I'm glad you've got it working. The newer versions of krita have a RAM allocation usage indicator in the status bar at the bottom, the rectangle that tells you the image size and RAM amount. That eventually shows a coloured bar to indicate if you're not bad, getting a bit full or pushing it. You'll understand when you see it. With 32GB of RAM, I doubt if you'll have any problems since the default allocation is 50% of your total RAM. This can be adjusted in the Settings.
It's a good idea to check the download site every few months to see if an update has been released; they happen quite often and have bug fixes and occasional new features. No, the copy does not start with the Undo history of the original. It's a fresh thing and will only Undo the operations that you do to it after it's been copied from the original. |
