Hi there!
So I'm not really sure how KDE forums work yet, and I really need to get in contact with someone that could help me and the Krita website lead me here. So anyway, I've been having a problem recently where I'll save my artwork as a .jpeg and a .kra file and everything is fine and dandy. But when I come back to work on the art again, the Krita file won't open and in my File Explorer, the thumbnail of the art doesn't even show up, it's just white with the Krita logo in the middle. When I click on it, Krita says that there's an error and my file isn't a Krita file (even though it is). I tried absolutely almost everything (to my knowledge) on recovering my files. Sometimes I can find the proper file when I search my computer, other times I can't and Krita won't allow me to recover it. It's frustrating losing progress all the time (I do comic pages so sometimes I'll finish an entire panel, save it, then when I want to continue working on it, it's either that error that pops up or my progress has disappeared). What do I do? |

Which OS and which version of krita are you using? How long have you been using krita and when did this problem start to happen?
If it's only happened recently, after some time of having no problems then an obvious question is - what changed? If the .kra file won't open, does the .jpg file that you also save display ok in a file viewer? Can krita open that .jpg file? Do some of your .kra files display proper image content in the File Explorer and some not - or are they all just the krita logo? Does the .jpg file that you saved show proper content in the File Explorer. Where are you saving files to? Is it only in your own user area or do you save them to a higher level place in the folder structure? Do you save to a live synchronised Dropbox folder or GoogleDrive folder or One-Drive folder or network drive, etc? Are you the only user of the computer and are you using the first created user account? Can you try some simple creation/saving/opening exercises of .kra files only in your own user area and see if the problem occurs if you restrict yourself to that location? |

@ahabgreybeard
That's a good idea, I will test it out and see. Thank you so much for your reply! |

I won't bother explaining all the reasons why it's a bad idea to modify the contents of a block quote from another post. I'll just carry on:
The most recent version of krita (at the moment of writing) is 4.2.5. This will soon change and in a short time from now it will be 4.2.6. I'll assume you have 4.2.5. I forgot to ask: Do you have or did you install, update, modify or make any changes to any anti-virus or other 'security' software on your computer? If so, it would be a good idea to temporarily disable it and see if that affects the situation with krita and .kra file saving/opening on your computer. If it's the in-progress ones that tend not to open/display then I suspect it's because all your in-progress ones have been created or worked on since the problem started. You say "tend not to open". Does this mean that some recently created and/or worked on files do display and open correctly? If so, what is the difference between them in terms of their history and possibly their content? Can you make a copy of an 'old' .kra file that you finished working on a long time ago and open it and make changes to it then save it to see if it has a problem? Most people save everything to a folder in their computer. Just to be sure, do you save to C:\Users\{your username}\My Documents\...etc..? |
