Hi guys.

I have a question from one of my students at Udemy, Roland Roman.

He is using Krita 4.2.5 and Ubuntu 19.04. The pop-up palette is working perfectly when he uses his mouse. But when he uses his drawing tablet, the pop-up palette disappears when he release the button on his pen. He is using Wacom Intuos S tablet.
Did anyone find similar issue? Or is there a way to get around this problem?

Does that stylus 'right click' button work normally for other 'right click' actions, such as selecting the options menu for a selected vector object?

There is a small possibility that the stylus button has dirt/corrosion problems and is giving a double action when released. Does this still happen if he presses the button down hard and then releases it quickly? (He may be doing a very delicate pressing action which would worsen any problems due to switch problems.)

The Wacom Intuos S (released in 2018) is the updated version of the Wacom Intuos Draw/Art which is the tablet that I have. If I use the tablet tester and press/release the right-click stylus button with the pen hovering over the tablet, I get the following output:

Stylus press X=281.87 Y=512.25 B=2 P=0.0%
Stylus move X=282.21 Y=512.58 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
.....repeated movement..................B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus move X=281.20 Y=511.71 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus release X=281.20 Y=511.71 B=0 P=0.0%

Stylus press X=283.05 Y=512.47 B=2 P=0.0%
Stylus move X=283.05 Y=512.90 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
.....repeated movement..................B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus move X=280.69 Y=511.93 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus release X=280.69 Y=511.93 B=0 P=0.0%

Stylus press X=280.02 Y=509.99 B=2 P=0.0%
Stylus move X=279.52 Y=509.67 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
.....repeated movement..................B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus move X=278.84 Y=509.34 B=2 P=0.0% (DRAW)
Stylus release X=278.84 Y=509.34 B=0 P=0.0%
Pen tip taken away

The record above shows three consecutive presses/releases. I added a blank line between them and put the 'repeated movement' lines in for ease of reading and clarity. B=2 is the stylus button being pressed, B=0 is the button being released. Does he get that output from the tablet tester?

Ubuntu 19.04 is based on a pre-release of Debian 10 (which is what I have) so there shouldn't be any problem with the built-in Wacom drivers. For over two years, I've had no problems with the right-click stylus button press on Debian. Just to make sure, can he use the Synaptic package manager and search for 'wacom'. The libwacom* packages should be at version 0.32-1 and the xserver-xorg-input-wacom package should be at version 0.34.99.1-1

Has he installed or used any kind of tablet configuration utility or tried editing the settings of tablet configuration files? Most people don't do this but it is possible.

Hi Ahab.

Thank you so much for the thorough answer. I will forward this to my student and follow up again.
