Krita 4.2 Problems

Fri Sep 27, 2019 2:53 pm
Hello!
I’ve used Krita for quite a while now, and I find it as a great image editor; however, the newer version keeps giving problems that I never had in the 3.0 versions.

Problem 1: Brush editing and Brush tag bug?
In an older version of Krita, there was an option where you can edit a brush individually and saves that brush as well as putting the option to quicksave changes to brushes (changing the size of the brush with the toolbar will have the brush keep that size after being swapped to and back from another brush).

Now the newer version has some oddities to this. While I “can” change the brush through the edit brush button, it seems I no longer have the option to do permanent quick changes to the brush from the toolbar. That’s not all; if I try to permanently edit the brush through the (edit brush window) and save it, it does some something to the brush that make invisible to all brush tags except “all” (even setting it on a custom tag doesn’t work). I have three copies of the same brush that are inaccessible through the brush menu unless I have the tag menu set to ”all”, and I still don’t know how to permanently change a brush by just using the toolbar!
UPDATE: For some reason, tagging one of the three clone brushes just worked for some reason. I don’t know how because I remembered vividly that I tried doing it a multitude of times, but to no avail. The quick brush editing is still a problem I have yet to fix.

Problem 2: Krita’s external windows
Speaking of the editing windows, every time I open an option in Krita that opens an external window, the window is too large to access. I use a Surface Pro 2, and when I open a window (edit brush for example) the close and save changes button is not visible, and the top bar where you can move the window is offscreen. I have to rotate the Surface vertically to attempt to use or even close the window, and that’s a pain based on how I set up my Surface. Is there an option to shrink the pop-up windows down by default, so they are more easily accessible?

Problem 3: Editing the toolbar
Another big issue I have with the new Krita is that I have fewer workspace for the main window...or canvas (the image window). I did manage to edit the necessary dockers and shrink a few icons to the point it can be workable, but one thing that really frustrates me is the “tool” docker (the docker with paint brush, text, fill bucket, etc.). The “select” option, for some reason, is located at the very bottom. Normally this wouldn’t be much of an issue in most image editors, but in regards to Krita, it is: I cannot shrink the icons any further, I have to flatten most dockers to give the main workspace more space thus leaving most of there options partly visible (the “tool” docker can’t even scroll), and in order to actually access any ”select” tool, I have to shrink down the necessary “tool options” docker to the point of being unusable. Is there a way to edit the “tool” docker so the most important are visible at the top and the least important hidden at the bottom? Heck, is there a way to shrink icons even further altogether so they take less space?

The latest formal release is 4.2.6, are you using that?

re. Problem 1: In the brush editor, at the bottom of its window is an option box named 'Temporarily Save Tweaks to Prests'. This should be ticked to enable the opacity, size and other changes to be preserved during a session. This box is always ticked on my system but I don't know if that's an overall setting controlled by another option somewhere.

When you save a new brush preset, it's saved with no tags so you have to put tags on it if you want them. This works fine for me in the brush presets docker.

re.Problem 2: This may be something to do with your OS display scaling and the 'Enable Hi-DPI support' option in Settings -> Configure Krita -> General -> Window tab but I don't know about that area.

re.Problem 3: The Toolbox docker (the docker with paint brush, text, fill bucket, etc.) has scroll buttons at the top/bottom or left/right depending which way it gets 'crushed' as it gets resized. Are you using the 'Default' workspace? You can arrange the dockers in any different way that you like.

https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_man ... =workspace

I have the Toolbox docker running across the width of my screen under the Toolbar, as a single line of tools, but that's a personal preference.
I don't know of any way to reorder the Toolbox icons or shrink them.

Thanks for your response and sorry I responded so late!

Problem 1 is fixed! I think checked that box before in the older version of Krita, but I forgot where it was and no thanks to the huge menus in the edit options!

Problems 2 and 3: OH MY GOD! Once I disabled “Hi-DPI support”, everything shrank!! Icons, Menus, Dockers, and the Tools Docker shows everything now! And the canvas is so freakin’ huge, that I can just make out with it!!

Now this is a program I can enjoy! Thanks man, you were a great help!
