I don't know why this doesn't work but I am trying to use the freehand path tool on my touchscreen laptop and its not drawing anything.
And then after I try to draw something on the screen i switch to the mousepad to see if it works. And it does, but I have to click on another tool before using it again.

I have no idea why this isn't working.

please help, i am but a lowly zoomer in need of boomer expertise
