Hi,

I was saving a file when my laptop gave a bluescreen error and conked off (My laptop is kinda a ****). The saving was not complete.

Now if I try to open the same file I get error " The file format cannot be parsed... Reason- Not a valid krita file.
I invested a lot of time in that comic page, hence am not happy with what has happened.

I updated krita to new version 4.2.7.1 from previous 4.1.1 still no avail.

Can anybody suggest a way out.

Yes, broken hardware can break files. You could try a zip repair tool like zip repair pro (http://www.ziprepair.com/), and could check whether the backup file which krita makes by default is useful.

Depending on how badly and in what way your .kra file has been corrupted, if the zip repair tool doesn't help then it may be possible to recover the final merged image result. If you rename the .kra file as a .zip file and try to open it, you may be able to do that and see mergedimage.png at the top level. This would be better than nothing if you can get it.

My error is that I overwrtoe the file with another copy, so can't try out your solutions per say.

This is for an entirely new file.
I tired you zip tool but it is paid and very expensive.

For the mentioned file: I had properly saved it, no saving error. Krita had not crashed and no windows crash either. Now it just won't open.
I had enabled the autosave , but there is no autosave file to be found in the same folder. I wonder how. So stuck at the same problem.

Is it? I downloaded ziprepair on Windows for free from http://www.ziprepair.com/download-ziprepair.php.

I can download for free, using costs.

If not purchased it does not save the recovered file.

I used https://extract.me/ and extracted the file and saved it as .zip file.

How to convert it to a .kra file??

Just change the extension to .kra
