Striped Selection Fill With Contiguous Select

Hi All.

I had a question about contiguous selection tool. When attempting to fill or brush a selection made with contiguous select, it creates rigid stripes, as seen in these images:

This does not happen with other selection tools, and only seems to happen if there is something in the background at the time the selection is made. I was wondering if this is some contiguous select functionality (maybe some opacity pattern I don't know about?). I don't see any tool options that seem to affect this.

Thanks!

In the Tool Options docker, make sure that 'Limit to current layer' is ticked and that 'Anti-aliasing' is not ticked.

If the tool is not limited to the current layer then it will be affected by the content on other layers and that may have created what you see in the screenshot you showed.

That banding is very distinct so I'd have thougth that it would be obviously related to other image content. You say it happens if there is something in the background. So, what was in the background when you made that selection?

If none of the above helps then post a link to your .kra file so someone can have a look at it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Disabling anti-aliasing seems to stop the stripes, so I suppose that answers my question. I didn't expect anti-aliasing to cause the stripes. A little more info if anyone was curious:

The the only active background is the faint grey gradient in the images I provided. However, the stripes do not match the background (A gradient ascending dark to light). I assume anti-aliasing let the tool pick up on the background opacity, but since the stripes didn't match my background, I didn't think of the connection (Jagged bands extending up and down versus my one-direction soft gradient).
I experimented a bit and found the stripes appear whenever I have a gradient or just a layer with differing darkness on a layer in the background and anti-aliasing is on. None of my other layers have that distinct banding for the tool to pick up. I've also seen this on other projects.

In any case, I now know how to avoid the issue. I'll either disable anti-aliasing or disable any backgrounds with variable opacity. (I'd rather not restrict to current layer when working with many layers). I'll read about the contiguous select tool a bit more, I probably missed some details.
Thanks for the help!
