Hi,
I am trying to use the hotkeys to cut and copy a selection to a new layer. Both Ctrl+Alt+J and Shift+Ctrl+J are not working when I use them. What can I do to solve this problem?

BTW, I have used other hot keys with the CTRL+ALT command and they work just not with the J key. I tried to reassign the hot key for the commands, but ran into trouble with that too.

Thanks for the help.

The normal keys are ctrl-x/ctrl-c for cut and copy and ctrl-v for paste -- did you change those shortcuts yourself?

Hi,
Thank you for your time. All hot keys I have used so far have worked as assigned. Ctrl C and Ctrl V work. It is just this particular copy/cut to a new layer seem to be funky. Have you come across this before?

Ctrl+Alt+J and Ctrl+Shift+J work fine for me with version 4.2.8 and the krita_default shortcut scheme selected. Is that the scheme you're using?

Does Ctrl+J work for you to Duplicate a layer and does Ctrl+Shift+I work to Invert a selection? If they do then that suggests there's nothing wrong with your 'J' key or your Shift key.

Nice suggestion :) . I am working with krita 4.2.8. and am using the default scheme. I experimented with changing command hot keys but did not see a result. I returned all command schemes to default after I experimented.

Currently:
the Ctrl J key combo does work.

the Shift Ctrl I does NOT work.

This being noted, I linked a blue tooth keyboard to my surface pro, and got the same result as with the surface pro key board. Ctrl J worked, but the Ctrl Shift I did not work either.

-side note. I tried CTRL Shift E to flatten the image. That did work.

(Ctrl then Shift then I) is no different from (Shift then Ctrl then I) for me, so that can't be it, I assume.

Does Shift+I work to bring up the colour selector on the canvas? (Remove it by pressing Shift.) Does the 'I' key work to reduce Opacity?

Do you have any utilities running that might have those key combinations as hot-key triggers and so they intercept them?
Close any other running apps and utilities and widgets and try again - then disable any start up apps/utilities/widgets you may have set up - then try again after a PC restart is all else I can think of.

Hi,
Shift I does work. I don't know if I am using the "I" key right. It didn't seem to work when I pressed it. Both independently and when I brought up the color picker when using Shift I.

That is an interesting idea about competing software. I just bought the computer. Apart from chrome and Krita, nothing has been downloaded. I tried ctrl shift j and ctrl alt j. Ctrl shift j seems to bring up something related to the coding of the website. ctrl alt j doesn't do anything. Could chrome be interfering.

Thankyou!

I'm afraid that I've run out of basic ideas. I don't know about Chrome but you can do Google searches for that. If you've just bought the computer, then depending on where you bought it from, it could have all sorts of start-up junk on it so check the start-up list to see if there's anything 'strange or unusual'. Again, a Google search will probably tell you what things are and what they do.
The only other thing I can say is 'Good Luck' .

Thank you for your help. A new way of thinking about a potential solution has been introduced to me. This is quite helpful.

Take care.
