hi all
I've been experimenting and getting nice inked outlines with realistic undulations using size over distance. It works really well with both brush strokes and stroking bezier curves. I was wondering if there is a way to taper the curve at the beginning and end, whilst also using an undulation in the size over distance? I hope I described that in an understandable way. thanks Matt |

For hand painted lines, you can use time and pressure variation. I'd suggest size controlled by time to go from 0% to 100% over a 0.5 second period (no repeat) with the 'Share curve ....' box unticked. With pressure you could have the size go from 100% to 0%, again with the 'Share curve ....' box unticked if you already have opacity controlled by pressure. The time is easy to do but the pressure control is difficult depending how well you can control your hand/fingers.
This won't work with stroked lines because they happen 'instantly' at maximum pressure. You can also try using the Masked Brush settings at the bottom of the control column, I think you'd have to set up the mask brush tip to be a similar size as your main brush and then make its size vary with distance (no repeat) and maybe try size with pressure too. I'm not familiar with the masked brush and find it a bit confusing. |

Hi AhaGreyBeard
thanks for responding and sorry for my delay in thanking you. I'm really looking for a method of using stroke curve to generate a natural (a bit lumpy) line that tapers at each end to really rattle through my line art. Inkscape has a nice tapered line facility, so I might do that first and then bring the image (complete with smooth tapered lines) into Krita to add some natural lumpyness. Not ideal, but it might be a way to accomplish what I need. on a side note: I'm not sure if I have managed to corrupt my Krita installation or whether it's a bug in this release, but if I alter my brush settings and then untick the share curve box, it returns the brush settings to the default curve. No big deal, but a bit irritating if you've spent a while getting the size curve just right. thanks again for helping. cheers Matt |

Untick the Share curve box before you start dragging the newly enabled control curve around.
