Hello everyone, I am using the latest Ubuntu release 20.04.1 LTS and Krita 4.3.0 on it.
I am trying to install a custom font called "Inter" to use it in Krita. I used the "Font Manager" tool for Ubuntu for this purposes and font was successfully installed, I also can use it in other applications such as "Libre Office" and "Text Editor". The problem is that this font doesn't appear in Krita, and I can't use it. I tried to install some other fonts and they work fine in other applications, but not in Krita. I also tried to reboot Krita and PC, but it didn't help. Any ideas? |

It is .otf file and located in ~/.local/share/fonts/ directory with read-only rights.

Did you do:
sudo fc-cache -f -v and then: fc-list | grep "Inter" to check? I've just tried the inter.otf fonts in krita and they work if I put them in ~/.fonts The variable .otf font shows a long list of available styles/weights in the text editor but they have no effect if you try to change the selection. It's probably better to use a full set of separate individual .otf files. They're also available as a .ttf set which may cause less confusion overall. |

In the output of the last command where my installed Inter fonts.
Didn't help.
Didn't say about that, but yes, I had a set of .otf files for Inter font.
I removed .otf font and then installed .ttf font by using font-manager. The font became available in Libre Office, but no result in Krita. Moving it to ~/.fonts folder didn't help too. Upd: after reinstallation of Krita, fonts became visible and can be used now. |

Check the settings of the text tool. There's a font-filter in place to ensure you don't get fonts outside of your native script so that an english speaker doesn't have to deal with uygur fonts that are often preinstalled. Likely, your font doesn't have enough character definitions to be considered as having the full Latin script.

Thank you TheraHedwig, I was able to solve this problem, it was just filtering fonts. I was looking for a lot of beautiful fonts to work with such as kinetika sans, A. I. rebellion and retrophilia. But for some reason, they were not visible in Krita. This bothered me because the person who ordered my business card liked one of these fonts and he only wanted that one. I didn't know what to do anymore and thought that I would lose my order. So when I saw your topic, I was happy and you helped me out very much and I was able to finish my work on time.
