I'm an artist new to using Linux(Kubuntu), and I was told by a developer that the Appimage version of Krita can't use the native file dialog. This is inconvenient, since the included file dialog does not show the thumbnails for files, which is important when scrolling through images. Otherwise, I may have to continue using 4.2.9, available on Kubuntu's Discover application. I'd prefer *not* to do that, since I'd like to keep up with the latest updates, but the lack of file previews is a no-sell for me. So how can I install a non-appimage version of 4.4.0?

And now you're talking to the very same people again... Asking the same question, and you'll be getting the same answer. You could, of course, use a file manager that shows previews and drag and drop the images into Krita that way. The snap and/or flatpak might have the platform plugins available; I wouldn't know about that.
Sometimes you just have to accept some things, and stop thinking in terms of "no-sell" -- especially since you haven't been sold anything. |

Incorrect. This is a new question. I accept that the appimage doesn't function how I want, and I'm investigating ways around it. I felt that this was a better space to ask than the bug reporting forms.
It's a turn of phrase. Haven't you heard it before? Relax. The point is, the software doesn't do what I want, and as someone who uses software, whether it does what I want is important to whether I use it. That's all I meant. Thank you for your time, even if you're not interested in answering the question, "how can a dumbdumb artist like me get a non-appimage version of this art program?" |

I would suggest checking out the Bulicommander plugin, if you haven't yet: https://krita-artists.org/t/bulicommander/11612/ I myself haven't used it but it looks like it might fix the issue you're experiencing. (it's supposed to be a replacement for a native file dialog, with previews and some other things).
Depending on the workflow you're using, maybe the Last Document docker (shows all ten of the recent documents with nice previews; should be available by default in Settings -> Dockers) or https://krita-artists.org/t/krita-photo ... e-1-0/9053 (it's another plugin to download; it shows images - I think it might be just PNG/JPG ones - from a specific folder recursively, I think you might need to put some keyword down first though) will help you achieve what you want with less pain.

Yiou know, I actually answered that question. Try the snap or flatpak. |

The latest version of flatpack should have an option for native dialogs enabled by default. And, theoretically, it shouldn't have the tablet problems that distribution packages have, because since 4.4.0 they started to use our patched version of Qt instead of the system-wide one. Though we didn't test it thoroughly because we don't officially support flatpacks.
