Hello, everyone! I am an avid Krita user, and new Krita builds always go smoothly for me, but ever since 4.4.0, I've had this issue that has persisted since before I upgraded to a graphics card, and with Krita 4.4.2, hasn't gone away. I've been stuck on older builds because of it.

OS - Windows 8.1
System - 8GBs RAM, Nvidia 1050ti 4GBs VRAM, AMD A-10 APU (64-bit)

This is what happens even after I wipe everything in /AppData/Local/krita and AppData/Roaming/Krita, even the kritadisplay.rc files in the Local folder. I also tried resetting Krita's configuration files through the app itself, and selecting default workspaces hasn't fixed it either.

I also used Windows' search tool to search for any stray display profiles that might be lingering around, but found nothing. This is unlike any issues posted for 4.4.x in previous months, I've looked. None of those solutions worked.

The file menu is pushed up beyond view by 32pixels or so of blank space, and all click interactions in the window are offset by this blank space at the bottom of the window, too; I have to click so many pixels below an element for it to work.

What's so odd is that, in fullscreen mode, everything works as expected, and if I click-drag the edges of the window to resize it, the file menu is pushed back down to its correct position, but immediately snaps back up beyond usability after I stop dragging. Older builds than 4.4.0 are also fine!

This makes any prospect of me streaming with a recent build of Krita very impractical. I am upset that I wasted two hours of precious free time trying to fix this instead of drawing, and am hoping somebody here has encountered it before.

Thank you in advance for any help.

It's a problem with the OpenGL driver and Windows 8. It's been a long time since I last saw this. You should be able to access the settings dialog using alt-n, s and then select Angle for the canvas acceleration or disable canvas acceleration.

It works in full-screen mode because Windows 8 compositor then doesn't come in play.

Nice to know it's an issue specific to Windows 8- that is quite interesting. My insistence on not upgrading to Windows 10 sure bites me sometimes.

I just tried what you suggested, and you want to hear something funny? The renderer was already set to Angle, but switching to OpenGL and restarting Krita fixed the problem! ??? Performance doesn't seem to suffer with OpenGL on this graphics card either, so, problem solved.

Thank you so much, boudewijn! I'm relieved that I can use the new Krita builds normally now. ^-^
