Image accidentally cropped?

Mon May 24, 2021 2:23 am
Hello! I'm so inexperienced with Krita and I'd like some help if possible! I seem to have accidentally cropped the image that I've spent hours on and have no idea how to get it back!! Is it lost? The items that I have placed still show that they are there if I click on them. They show an outline of the shape on canvas and what has been cropped to the left of the canvas. I've tried ctrl A to deselct the image but it still shows the entire image as "selected" with the dotted borfer around it. I would upload an image but it doesn't look like that's allowed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That doesn't sound like an accidental 'crop'. It sounds like an accidental 'resize'. The difference is significant because crop discards image data but resize only changes the size of the canvas while leaving content still there but outside the canvas area.
Or, you may have done a Move operation and not noticed you were moving content off-canvas.

Ctrl+A is in fact the shortcut for Select -> All. Ctrl+Shift+A is what you need to do Select -> Deselect.
This is why I always use the menus because I can't remember shortcuts.

I'd suggest that you first Save the image as a .kra file if you haven't already done so and then do any recovery attempts of a copy of that .kra file, in case it goes badly wrong.

Try Image -> Resize Canvas and set the Width and Height to about twice the current width and height and drag the small red rectangle (current canvas indicator) to be in the middle of the larger white rectangle (new canvas size indicator). Then press OK.
That will make the canvas larger and should reveal any content that had been previously pushed off-canvas.

After that, you can do another Resize operation (or a very careful crop) to get the canvas back to the size you want with artwork correctly positioned on the canvas.

You can't post images here. You can upload screenshots etc. to an image storage site like imgur or a file sharing service and then post a link to them here.
