Appimages

Hello, I would like to know what happens when you run an appimage ("Kubuntu")? Where are the settings (workspaces, ...) stored? Do I get "garbage data" if I run eg krita 5.0.2 in 2 different locations?

Resources: https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_man ... management

Configurations: https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html ... les-stored

It is possible to run two instances of 5.x with independent configuration files and resources. You do this by creating isolated local home environments in folders.
The first time it is run you have to specify the local resources folder and restart. (That may be a bug.)
Edited:Strike: That was a misunderstanding by me.

A clear and proper explanation requires screenshots of folder structures and file contents so please go to https://krita-artists.org/ then sign up and sign in and create a new topic about this.
That forum is a place where screenshots etc can easily be uploaded.

Hello and thanks, but I started Krita's appimage and later moved it to another folder from where I want to use it permanently. I would just like to know if I created "junk data" from the 1st start, as I would like to have a clean system...

You are fine; you haven't created junk data. All instances of Krita run from appimage use the same configuration/preferences files and directories path than real Krita package instalation.

@Deevad: Thank you!

I'm still relatively new to Linux, and just got my first install - knowing all the intricacies.
Hence the "concern".

Hello everyone,

I am reactivating this thread, because, looking for posts with the search engine, I found, among 188 matches, this post to be the closest to my question - just to realise that it didn't get the answer to its initial question!

nachtgold wrote:Hello, I would like to know what happens when you run an appimage ("Kubuntu")? Where are the settings (workspaces, ...) stored? Do I get "garbage data" if I run eg krita 5.0.2 in 2 different locations?

So, yes: where, with an appimage (like kdenlive, in my case), are settings stored?

I am convinced they are stored - but it cannot be in the personal user directory or on the partition where the appimage is stored: I found neither here nor there (visible or hidden) anything that looks like a settings file or directory...

Any hint?

Thanks a lot in advance.
