Love all the changes on Krita. Nice work!
One thing I can't figure out is where to find the text tool. Its icon is not present in my "Tools" toolbar, and I have looked at every icon carefully. I've installed Koffice2 from OpenSUSE YaST2. I've only installed koffice2 base, Krita, Karbon, Kword and kchart. Everything else works fine. Any idea why I can't get that to show? The version of Krita says: "2.0 Beta7". Is this the correct version, or did the opensuse pull an older version? Thanks for any input. |

2.0 beta7 is an old version, 2.0 rc1 is the current one
text in krita2 is a shape, you can find it in the "add shape" docker, i believe is in a tab somewhere at the right, or you have to add it from the menu settings -> dockers there are two different text shapes, one is the "text shape" and the other is "artistic text shape" |

You rock. I got really busy over the past month, sorry for not having replied earlier.
I also decided to wipe out my openSUSE desktops, and I installed Kubuntu on VirtualBox on my WinXP laptop instead (amazing results). So I just gave Krita 2 RC1 another shot... ...You were right on!! it's in a right docker, within the shapes. I would say that it's not the most obvious spot for it to be, but as long as it's there, I am happy. Thanks a million md. |

--- just noticed you are a kubuntu user too ----
I just wanted to add that this is the *BEST TEXT TOOL* I've ever seen. Nice work folks.... sweet, I can now trash gimp and paint.net for good (sort of) |

@marrydavidson101 sounds like you are using Krita 1.6 ? Could it be simply a problem of selecting a visible color ?

For anyone else wondering about how to create and edit text in Krita, there's a short video tutorial at:

I've found the Add shape -> Text and added the shape and resized it. No problems with that.
But I can't find the "Text Tool" in the Tools Docker. I'm using both Krita 2.1.2 (in Kubuntu Lucid) and Krita 2.3.3 (in Kubuntu Natty). I watched the tutorial video and that guy has a Text Tool but I don't! Ok, I finally got the answer from the KOffice Tutorials for Artistic Text Shape (at http://userbase.kde.org/KOffice/Tutoria ... Text_Shape ). It says to double-click on the newly created Artistic Text (or Text) shape and that will bring up the Text Tool options. I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. (I haven't double-clicked anything since I stopped using Windows many years ago.) |
