my thoughts on krita

Tue Apr 27, 2010 5:04 am
I've been searching for a good painting tool for drawing with my tablet and found various programs inadequate: gimp, photoshop, painter.

Then I came across Krita using KDE on Windows and specifically liked the way the brush draws when using the tablet. On other programs brush painting looks too rough, I don't know, maybe I can recreate the same effect Krita has on other painting programs but I don't know how.

My problem is that it crashes. A lot. I understand the version I downloaded is a beta version. I just really want a stable version, I hope the development team responsible for the windows version really works on the stability.

Another thing I noticed is that the tools don't have shortcuts for them. I was trying to find the hotkey for pan, spacebar didn't work, didn't find a shortcut setting either. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the tools really need shortcuts.

Still another is the krita file that I saved is corrupted! I tried opening a previously made file and Krita said its an invalid file. Here's a copy of the file. http://anomalousunderdog.webs.com/1245938493879%20EPOS.kra

I'm using Krita 2.1.0 using KDE windows 4.3.4

You can change the file extension from .kra to .jpeg and then open it in Krita. I know that it may not be the best solution but I can confirm that it works with Krita 2.2 Beta 2 and should work with your version too.

Hi, Krita 2.2 is a lot faster, a lot more stable than 2.1 and has more features. It supports space for panning, for instance. Shortcuts for activating tools are configurable, but that is not completely dependable. The first release candidate for 2.2 was branched on Friday, expect a release this week. However: I don't know when the windows installer will be updated. We're not really focussed on windows at the moment, we want to get Krita ready for end-users on Linux first.

About your file: I'm not sure what happened, but Akia is quite right: it is actually a jpg file, not a Krita file.
