Missing packages

Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:51 am
Hello again! Well, the topic title might sound like a classic error caused by hand-installed packages, but this time unfortunately, that's not the case. I'm running Xubuntu 10.04 Lucid. I'm trying to install it from the backports ppa, but there's a little problem: After some failed attempts, I realized it's asking me for packages from natty... Any clue anyone? Examples of the packages requested are: liblzma2, specifically on the liblzma2_4.999.9beta version and libqtwebkit4, this last one has to be >= 2.0.0. At some point I decided to install it manually, but the package dependant on it :libkdewebkit 5 didn't recognize it, forcing me to seek for 2.1 ... from natty.

I already know that the backports ppa is not recomended because of this kind of issues, but I honestly find it very uncomfortable to compile it from git (because of the time it takes, it's not that dificult actually) and having to run a series of commands in the terminal in order to use krita (because I followed the instructions for compiling and installing it in the home directory instead of usr/bin). So, if there isn't a safer choice at the time aside from compiling it, does anyone know when will krita 2.3.1 be avaiable in the regular lucid repo? Perharps me and krita are not meant to be together >_<

Try updating your list of packages (apt-get update) and ensure you are using the repository version intended for your distro version.

There is a script that can compile it for you on these forums (under General Help subforum) however if you don't want to spend the time compiling it, then really you just need to file bugs on the ppa to get them to fix the packaging errors. I'd try bcooksleys advice too. If all else fails, there's some work happening to get a daily build of Calligra with packages for all distro's. The person doing it though is pretty busy, so it could be a while. Just stay tuned to the Krita team, either through the blog at Krita.org, one of the syndicated planets or on identica. We'll let you know what's happening.

Thanks to everyone! Well, about the apt-get update, I lost the count of the time I did it, after opdating the repo list from software sources, synaptic, and ubuntu software center, the did it restarting each time I modified the list, then tried hand editing sources.list, first removing the repos and then re-adding them, all with the same result, however, thanks for theadvice : ( , I know sometimes that's really the problem, this time it wasn't unfortunately.

I'm somehow optimistic with the compiling thing and all, everytime the kernel updates I have to recomplie the wacom driver, so, I'm used to it; but (and it's offtopic I know) I'm at the same time a bit close minded: If there's suposedly and alternative to it, I would like to try that instead of compiling, don't missunderstand me, I had to code tons of things in C and assembler while in university, and I somehow relate the idea of compiling and stuff directly with the development area. I'm not a developer, but a user. Eventually I would like to at least donate or something I just don't have spare resources at the time.

However I understand how difficult is to code and build, so I respect it. When Calligra was just released I downloaded and compiled it, and I used it for a couple of days before I found out it was in the backports repo (in the maverick one, not lucid, by the way)I installed and noticed that there was some features that were in the calligra version and weren't in the backports version. Anyway it was working just fine until I had this problem. I'll send the bugs to the ppa mantainers, look:

For all versions except lucid. And the one in beta is 2.2.9 let's see what happens in the next weeks, again thanks to everyone : ]
