To get Krita (2.3.3 from repository or master) working on last Ubuntu, you need to do a few things:
##This step is not necessary anymore, this bug is fixed###(-For the wacom pressure bug, activate the PPA from HERE and update qt4-x11 packages ( Bug report Here ) )### -For the strange ghost lines bug (that goes from the cursor to to canvas border, strange bug) , revert xserver-xorg-core to previous version ( apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1 ) ( Bug report Here ) -If you're using Gnome or Unity, to fix the weird ugly theme and the brush engine selection that wrongly need double-click, do this: install qtcurve and qtconfig, and then in qtconfig select qtcurve. It should be ok now, happy painting! Note: qt4-x11 is divided in several packages and none is exactly named qt4-x11, that can be confusing. Don't worry if you don't find it, just update.

Many thanks!!! I used this now and it work in my Ubuntu 10.10 Gnome! No more double-clicking with tablet stylus to change a brush engine! |

I have a question, do I update all the packages labelled qt4 or just specific ones. I tried all of them and although there is pressure sensitivity, my brush strokes do not appear on the actual painting but they do work on brush customization image area.

I would say update everything, except xserver-xorg-core that need to stay on "old" 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1 version. I hope it'll work for you

Yesterday, I have (finally) tested your instructions on Ubuntu 11.04 - all work fine, thank you very much!

Just following the bug reports sounds kind of hopeful it *may* be fixed and updated soon anyway. That said, the more votes / relevant comments on the bug reports until it's fixed, the better imo. (Do I hear dev's everywhere groaning? )

I've just edited first post, the PPA for qt4-x11 is not necessary anymore.

I follow all the instructions in ubuntu 11.04, I have krita 2.3.3, I use wacom intuos 4 medium, still the ghost strokes that go to the up left corner :S pen pressure works, but I can't work like in that way, I have to press the left click of the stylus then I give a stroke to work, but I can't do that every time, is just don't suppose to work that way. Gonna try this without unity and then I keep you update with the results (I also gonna deactivate compiz).

Well I test it on different desktops, ubuntu classic mode 11.04 still the same problem of the ghost lines, same to the other ones, kde deskop, etc, same problem to all the other desktops. Then I got Fedora 15 installed, finally I got Krita 2.3.3, the problem is that the screen is out of the corners (screen) then I cant rezise it, so is a pain trying to paint and then pressing alt to move the screen you know, is annoying. Then I just install lxde (FINALLY) I could start painting withou problems, no screen issue, no wacom issue.BUT, lxde is not my desktop of choice . Anyway, I hope I could help you guys out, I'm gonna let this distro installed on my laptop to test krita and help you guys with bugs. But please, please guys, make it work well in the latest distros of choice, theres a lot of artist out there that they don't care to much about linux, and if they do, they preffer the latest distro, for example ubuntu 11.04, fedora 15, linuxmint 11gnome, linuxmint 10 kde, etc, etc. Even for windows and mac users, what matters is you guys, is Krita, not the os of choice at all, I know this is a pain, programming but I know you guys can do it, so cheer up, and never give up.

It's strange, I am on Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity desktop, and have no problems, as I wrote above...
May be something with your system locale, as I remember, someone here had similar cause of Krita malfunction... I usually set US English locale on every workstation because of some problems with Russian localization (different system paths, decimal separator - comma instead of a point, etc.). |

Hi artsymptom,
For the ghost lines bug in Ubuntu 11.04, you probably didn't follow the instructions right, because you need to revert xserver-xorg-core to 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1, and keep this version, then no trace of ghost lines with any wacom tablet. If you update it to 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 the bug comes back. (You can use Synaptic to block the version) Also for the issue you've had on Fedora15, getting the window too big for the screen, it's a bug that can happen with any distro/desktop, if the tools dockers is too long it brings the rest of the window with it, so you first need to tweak dockers inside the window to can get it fit the screen right. |

Thanks Deevad
I installed Koffice, the QTconfig, QTcurve, the xorg and reinstalled Krita, but my knowledge is very limited i'm afraid, so i'm lost unless i can just copy and paste into Terminal or find a tut on Youtube to get things working. I'm sure developers will fix this sooner than later so thicko's like me can just download and use Krita in the same way we can download and use Gimp, Blender etc straight out of the box. Until then i'll just use my mouse and explore this interesting app. |
