Hello again! See, due to some er... issues, I can't test this in the beta version of Krita, so I'm sticking right now with 2.3.3, and I have some questions about the text tool.
1.- Changing the color and background of the text is easy, but is there an option to add borders to text? 2.- How do I rasterize a text object in krita? 3.- How do I add borders to a layer? Now, these questions came around when I as trying to use Krita to desing some stickers. In general it was working good, but when I had to use text on the stickers I found myself a bit confused and decided to use Gimp to create the text separatedly and then paste it, which somehow does the job but it's a bit time-consuming. Then, in one of the designs I decided to include a speech balloon, but I found myself unable to add it a border in a "civilized" way, so again I made it in Gimp and pasted it in Krita, results can be inspected here: http://cesar-fps.deviantart.com/art/Kommst-du-mit-272587406?q=gallery%3Acesar-fps%2F26794053&qo=6 http://cesar-fps.deviantart.com/art/Beso-272587409?q=gallery%3Acesar-fps%2F26794053&qo=7 http://cesar-fps.deviantart.com/gallery/26794053#/d4iaiyj. I'm planning to use Krita to make comics also, but I need to know how to do the text borders for sound effects and speech balloons in a not so "brute force" way Also, I had some troubles with the smudge brush, as it left a black trace whenever I tried to smudge anything, which forced me to color the first two images in Mypaint, do the text in Gimp, and convert them to CMYK in krita. I tried to find some info but as Krita is relatively new and the 1.6 manual is obsolete I decided to come here. Thanks in advance. |

1. The currently is no direct way to do that. You can try to convert the text to a path and then set a border.
2. A direct rasterize action isn't implemented yet. You can do it by merging with another layer. 3. Not sure what you mean by that. |

First, thank you very much for your answer, merging the text wit a layer worked fine. Now, about the layer borders, I was refering to something like the "add border" option in FX-foundry>Layer effects in Gimp or the "trace" layer merging option in photoshop, something like this:
The "brute-force" method I used one time in Krita was selecting an area in an empty layer, fill it with color, duplicate the layer, place it below the first one and change the fill color, then I use the transfor controls to resize it. |

You can't add border to the text in easy way, but you can do that with the shapes (vector objects), also you can choose the thickness and the line style. Here an example with some work in progress that I'm doing.
Example 1: Example 2: Example 3: It's easy to do, all you need is add this docker: |

I agree with al-dy, if you want such style of precise clean outlines for ballons, vector shapes are the most simple.
Also there is the simple way I use to add a border to something in a few steps: for instance with some text, select it (assuming you converted it to bitmap layer before, as I'm not sure we can select opaque on vector layers currently), use "grow selection" by the number of pixels you want and fill with black (or other outline color) on a layer behind. For ballons I use to do the other way: draw the contour with a brush and freehand tool (or bezier tool too) and then fill it with white, on a separate layer behind. |
