Hello!
For me the default settings, and the oxygen theme engine is a little bit too shiny. Could somebody help me how to make KDE 4.10 more elegant? For example Windows 7 gives me a phenomenal balance between usability and shine, though it looks good, I don't want my desktop to have the same appearance. I have tried several qtcurve and bespin themes, but for they looked like a kind of mixture of shine, elegancy, and old-fashioned (dated) things. And also, bespin didn't gave me a united look across qt and gtk apps, like oxygen or qtcurve did.
I really thank for your help!

Which part of KDE exactly are you trying to change? The desktop itself or the applications?

The applications exactly. Or do you mean the desktop for the plasma interface?

When I am referring to the desktop, I am referring to all parts of the KDE Workspace, which includes KDE Workspace and KWin.
Changing the appearance of KDE applications is more difficult, as it requires writing a Qt Style, which is not a simple task. Apart from Bespin and Qt Curve there are no other freely customisable styles available i'm afraid - but both can be fairly heavily customised.

As for Oxygen - you can change it's appearance in some areas through System Settings > Application Appearance > Style, Have "Oxygen" selected as the "Widget style" - and then selecting "Configure" which should be beside the selection drop down. This should allow you to turn off some of the effects and other parts of Oxygen's functionality.
