I use SuSE 13.1 with KDE

I downloaded this package thru':

System Settings ==> Font Management ==> Tools (the cog symbol between 'Install, manage, and preview fonts' & the group listing) ==> Get New Fonts

to see what was in it (79 fonts, mostly rather dull but a few OK-ish). One of the best was efont-fixed - an excellent Konsole font. But then I discovered some problems with the spacing which went something like this:

$ Now.is..the...time....for.....all......good.......men........_

OK, this did (sort of) work itself out in the end but it was peculiar. Not a pleasant Konsole experience. I looked into the 3 "Fonts" programs (Fonts, Fonts - KDE3 font settings & Fonts - KDE3 configure) and fiddled around with aliasing, DPI & the rest - which didn't improve anything & sometimes made things worse.

Eventually, I found this:

http://jw-stumpel.nl/configuring-xterm-utf-8/

which is solely concerned with installing efont. I didn't have a file ~/.Xresources - so:

$ vim ~/.Xresources
cut & paste the relevant stuff from http://jw-stumpel.nl/configuring-xterm-utf-8/

and, bingo - it works.

I have found that using the:

"Fonts - KDE Control Module" ==> "use anti-aliasing"; enabled ==> "Configure..." ==> "Exclude range"; yes ==> "Use sub-pixel rendering"; change RGB to Vertical RGB.

makes this an excellently clear. readable, font for the Konsole when set at 12pt, bold; however, rightly or wrongly, I am (until my eyesight gets worse) sticking with DejaVu Sans Mono 9pt.

Hope this is of some use.

The brave might like to look at: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... /font-size
The heroic might try: http://www.momonga-linux.org/docs/TTF-H ... O_all.html (This site is a mixture of Chin/Japan(?)-ese & English. It's intimidating; but, the sort of person who can solve the puzzles on "Just Connect", should be able to get something out of it - search on "shinonome", the font's foundry
