Get your MSI Steelseries Backlit Keyboard (KLM) working just like you had when you first got your laptop home and set up. :D
I have tested and had this working now in KDE Plasma Neon 16.04, Linux Mint 17.2 & 17.3, & 18 Cinnamon, Kbuntu, Ubuntu 16.04.

Open a terminal and type or copy/paste these commands and do it exactly like this: If you install nodejs and npm not in this order, you will get conflicts.

sudo apt-get install libusb-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev

sudo apt-get install nodejs

sudo apt-get install npm

sudo ln -s `which nodejs` /usr/bin/node (you may get an error that it failed to make a symlink, for me it made no difference)

sudo apt-get install git

git clone https://github.com/Kwaadpepper/msi-keyboard-CLI.git ~/.msi-klm

cd ~/.msi-klm

npm install

Now, close the terminal.

Reopen the terminal and type this command:

cd /.msi-klm

sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js left red med 0 middle green high 0 right red med 0 <----- example *RED GREEN RED*

You should now have colors galore!!! Yippee!! \o/

Other examples:

sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js -c green
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js -i low
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js -k off
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js -b 600
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js left orange light 0 -k off right red
sudo nodejs msi-keyboard-CLI.js -k off right blue high 1000 left blue high 1000
