Hi

This is not KDE specific so I did not want to post in the tutorials altho mods can move it there if they wish.

if you have recently done an update and seen a message normally just after a kernel update and update of the intramfs
that starts as "W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_01.bin "
or other such missing fw then the answer is to install the firmware even though you may not have a CPU that belongs to that class.

I have read other posts saying its safe to ignore but I was sick of seeing the warning when it can be solved.

download is from here
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/firmware

missing fw will either be kbl skl or bxt.

For me it was only the kbl chipset.
so you will see a match for the clickable link at Products Kabylake .............DMC ver 1.01

direct download is
https://01.org/sites/default/files/down ... 01.tar.bz2

after download, unpack it and run the install with sudo command the install script.

results in /lib/firmware//i915 receiving the fw file and updating the initramfs

good luck
