Guys,

I am happy to share an easy way to setup your Microsoft Hotmail account with 2FA (2factor authentication) in your Kmail application.

note: My experience is based on German web pages, but I translate it for you:

step 1: open the Microsoft web-page for your account
step 2: Goto to the "security" top menu and open the tile "advanced security options"
step 3: If you have 2FA already activated there will be a (4th) paragraph titled "App Passwords",
below that click on the line saying "create new app passwords"
and copy the <new password> from the new page that just opened
--> store the PW somewhere safely, you will need it later
you can close the MS web page, if you like

step 4: Goto KMAIL "settings" > add mail account
step 5: enter your account name and hotmail e-mail address
step 6: as a password use the one that you just created on the MS web page

from here continue as usual, just like for all other IMAP accounts

that's it
