I will try to use the recent theme for a new look even though I am comfortable with one that I am using right now.

What exactly is your problem? Have you tried any of the above? I suggest you try one and in the unlikely event that you should fail you could open a thread (referring to this one) for each problem you encounter.

On Archlinux I use a package called firefox-kde-opensuse http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32598

The major goal of this firefox "version" is the best integration with KDE when you save to your hard disk any thing from the web. It does not open an ugly gtk popup, instead opens a popup such as of konqueror:

I'm using Debian Testing and followed the steps outlined in the first post to integrate firefox 4 (iceweasel 4, anyway) into KDE. However, the drop-down menus look ugly in the sense that when I use my mouse to hover over them, they leave a displeasing white trail behind. Here's a couple of screenshots to show what I mean:

Hm, what do you have in system Settings under GTK Styles and Fonts? Try Use my KDE style in GTK applications in case you have specified a special style...

I use QTCurve. My System Settings do not show the menu as "GTK Styles and Fonts" but as "GTK+Appearance", by the way. Here's a screenshot which clarifies everything:

I downloaded the version currently in the experimental Debian repository yet I'm still having no luck Any clues?

The Gtk settings KCM is not part of KDE itself, it comes from kde-look.org, etc. Might be available as a kcm-gtk or kcm_gtk package though.

Maybe you are talking about kde-config-gtk-style package.
