Just a short tip:

Symptom: The icon shows up somwhere on the desktop, but not in the system tray.

Workaround: Force Qt4 detection by starting it with
Code: Select all
$ hp-systray --qt4

Some distributions create an entry in the autostart directories, Gentoo for example creates /etc/xdg/autostart/hplip-systray.desktop when installing hplip.

It's been in my systray for both KDE4.2 and now for 4.2.1 and works perfectly.
