Sure!,
I was with the "threaded mode" activaded, so I supposed that the message would somehow appear or be marked as a response to the Post by Dryfif dated 2008-10-18 22:20, in a similar manner as kmail orders the messages on mail-lists, given that it was the one I was reading. Thought the Panels where plasmoids too...But they are on all activities.
Is there a way to change that?

No, that is not intended, though i don't know if this is planned. The Panel is, as the whole desktop, a containment, means a top level group of widgets. They are independant of each other. |

To be honest, I don't understand the decision even if the lack of knowledge is taken into account. They should have removed the cashew completely in that case, since the only thing remaining of what the cashew provides is the ability to add new plasmoids and that can be accomplished by just right-clicking on the desktop (assuming the widgets are unlocked). (K)Ubuntu are not alone in doing things like that of course, but I wish the distros could stop backporting and patching not-critical things for the default installation of the respective distro. Or if they feel they have to for whatever reason: make sure there are unpatched versions available too (you know, the versions upstream provides...)

Distros do this because they want to be different. If K?ubuntu/Mandriva/SUSE didn't patch everything they would look too alike and there would be less reasosns for users to choose them over the others. To use software in the way upstream intended it, you should use a plain distro like Debian or Gentoo. |

Each distro has it's own goals, philosophy and target groups. Due to it they change the software the deliver in the way they think suites best to those factors. In case of Kubuntu they menu items are taken out in view of usability, which was at that point of time not in a good shape.

Hi All
The Activity functionality is pretty good. I use opensuse 11 with kde 4.1.2. When I add new activity and switch to them, i see the panel and opened programs in task manager from previous Activity. In new Activity i remove all plasmoids and panel and add all from scratch but when i add task manager plasmoid i see again opened programs from previous Atcivity. Are anyone know how to make different panel and task manager for each Activity? Best regards. Sorry I see the answer of my question some post before. Anyway this will be good to implement.

The Activity Concept counts only for the desktop containments, means you can change the plasmoids on the desktop or the wallpaper. But panels and Windows are static.

I played with it in alpha and made some activities to see what it was, didn't understand it and couldn't remove them. After i updated it to latest i couldn't play with it anymore and didn't know of the shortcuts. The shorcuts showed the activities i made in alpha but now i can't make new ones. And after a fresh install i can't play with it anymore :'( If kubuntu would remove it totaly it would for me be a reason to switch to debian our debian based distro's. ( i know kubuntu is actualy also debian based :-P )

Bumping saying that in the Appearance Settings (KDE 4.2), you can associate a name to each activity, and those names will appear in the Activity Bar applet, which can then be used to switch.

Hello
hope this is not a OT or stupid question .... I found this Tutorial / thread since I am interested to learn more about the concept of activities in KDE. I am inspired to check this out since in kmail >= kde 4.2 RC1 are several option to sort mails e.g. by activities .... Also there are some print articles from sebas (Sebastian Kügler?) which describe that there are kind of objects (=activities) which linke things together => you read a mail an have direktly access to fotos which are tagged with the sender mail, also todos or records in kontact or chats in kopetke. Guess this all needs nepumuk and strigi???? With this background I am a little confused to get here a totally different description..? Thanks a lot for the patience to read, I hope that I not totally missed the point? -bushveld

The concept of the Activities is something that is still being worked on, as nepomuk also needs some more work and integration. So what you are maybe referring to are plans for the future, not yet implemented.
