Hello All,
Kubuntu 9.04 - KDE 4.3.2 - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG (Calexico2) - Kubuntu average user (not an expert) Now wireless is working fine in the configuration above. To achive this I followed the steps below: 1. Removed all networking tools (KNetworkManager, Kcid, Plasma-Widget etc) - no internet beyond this point; 2. Selected to install ONLY Plasma-Widget-Network-Manager; 3. Once prompted, took note of the dependencies; 4. Downloaded - in another computer - the requested files from the official repositories and saved them to a pendrive; 5. Installed each file manually; 6. Rebooted the computer and... voilá!: the network icon appeared in the system tray. Now, right-clicking it brings up the configuration app, where I can register the wireless networks I need, besides other tasks. It's working perfectly, but a small - and annoying - issue remains: each time I turn the computer on, a window pops up with a message similar to "KNetworkManager requested to open KWallet..."; I click OK (or Allow, I don't remember), and the boot resumes. Congratulations for the good job, Pipoca S. Paulo - Brazil |

KNetworkManager is securely storing the credentials for your wireless networks in KWallet to prevent them from being compromised. Given that KNetworkManager works for you, I would not recommend trying to change from KWallet as the password store as KNetworkManager is currently unstable.

Maybe you want to post it in the Tutorials and Tips forum? I could move this topic there or you post a new topic there and set a link to this one.
