Konqueror with webkit is a good combination. And rekonq is annoying (try kde-apps.org with rekonq 0.7.0). Konqueror with webkit is still better!

Anyways, when anybody types say "news" or "weather" on konqueror "location" bar, he/she will be slapped with a bad 'protocol not supported' dialog and to add insult to injury the 'typed keywords' are deleted/lost, making the user to type again with gg:keywords or something: keywords. which is a very bad of any software. A good software should try to help the user by being useful and not with 'I don't care, go to hell" attitude.

To fix this "Protocol not supported" error dialog, and make things easier for us.

Let's change the settings in Konqueror: (see the image)

1. go to (menu) settings->Configure Konqueror->Web Browsing->Web Shortcuts
2. in the "Default Search Engine" choose "Google" or 'your favorite search engine"
3. in "Keyword delimiter" choose "space"
4. click 'ok'

now click on the location area, and 'seach' without using ":" just type "planet kde" and press enter. We'll get search results as expected of a 'good modern' web browser.

If only Konqeuror could use firefox4's/chrome's/opera's exentions, then Konqi will stay in the competition.

Thanks.

I've moved this to Tutorials & Tips. It is probable the reason that no search engine is set is because KDE is neutral between search engines.
