KDE(Kubuntu) Non parte

Salve a tutti ho installato sul mio hd esterno kubuntu 10.10 ma non parte.
Quando avvio kubuntu,metto username e pass esce il riquadro principale dove compare l'icona di un HD,l'icona delle impostazioni e ritorna alla schermata di login.La cosa bella e che quando avviavo live kubuntu le icone nel riquadro principale apparivano tutte(icona hd,icona impostazioni ecc...fino alla grande K[simbolo di kde])
Che faccio?
N.B:Avevo avuto questo problema anche quando avevo installato KDE su ubuntu.
Mi hanno consigliato di accedere con control alt f1 alla schermata di login,dare il comando

mv .kde kde.old
e vedere se funzionava.Macche.Ancora non funziona,e mi hanno consigliato di andare a leggere il file .xsession errors nella cartella home,e c'e scritto questo dentro:

Ciao!

scusa il ritardo della risposta. Da quello che ho letto hai risolto...
In sostanza il problema era che durante il caricamento KDE tentava di attivare gli effetti 3D, a quel punto X crashava alla grande e addio... è un bug dei driver VIA (e forse di Ubuntu che utilizza una versione di sviluppo non ancora rilasciata dei driver 3D Mesa).
