Building a new PC

Tue Mar 13, 2012 9:21 pm
I am building a new PC that will be used mostly for web browsing (includes use of Flash - youtube and similar), watching videos and programing - nothing "graphics intensive".

I want to have cool and quiet PC that "cooperates" with KWin. I am looking for a CPU with at least 2 cores (preferably 4) and maybe some integrated graphics (on CPU or motherboard) and if these are not good then maybe some passively cooled graphics card.

I don't see a need for more than 1 display in the near future and I need a DVI connector, but having also HDMI wouldn't hurt.

I am mostly looking for good personal experiences regarding integrated graphics and how it works with KWin. In general I would prefer to have open source graphics drivers since they usually handle kernel updates better...

I have no experience with on-board graphic cards but can vouch for the cheapest available passively cooled nvidia cards which run perfectly under nouveau.
