Which Kubuntu did you try?

Over on www.kubuntuforums.net, where I'm one of the admins, we've been very impressed with how stable 12.04 has been throughout the alpha and beta process. For many of our members, myself included, 12.04 has been remarkably trouble-free, and we're still six days away from release.

I have been using openSUSE for a long time and I'm very happy with it. The current version is 12.1. I have also had a good experience with Mepis - it has a reputation for being particularly good at handling difficult hardware.

I have recently installed Kubuntu 12.04 alpha on my laptop, and it too seems to work very well.

Several other distributions shipping with KDE are listed on UserBase: http://userbase.kde.org/Live_CDs_-_a_way_to_choose_your_distro. These all provide a live CD, allowing you to test before installing.
