Native support in KDE for more than 5 mouse buttons

Hello,
why isn't KDE able to use the forward and back button of the mouse by default? Firefox and Opera for example are able to use the forward and back buttons without any configuration. To use the buttons in KDE (dolphin, konqueror) I have to install and configure xbindkeys. Best regards Martin |

Some of these limitations, IIRC, are due to Qt and will only be addressed properly in Qt 5.

The 'forward' and 'back' buttons are the only two "extra buttons" which DO work in Qt4 (and thus, current KDE Releases). Programmers of Dolphin, Konqueror, and etc. could add new code, right now, to handle mouse events (Press, Release, Doubleclick) from Qt::XButton1 and Qt::Xbutton2.
And so: The two specific buttons which you have asked about are already available, this is a "lack of features" at the Application level. But to get at ALL of the possible buttons, you will have to wait for a KDE which is built on Qt5.
