Just wanted to put some thoughts out there; this forum category is the closest fit for my topic but I don't have the time to chat about it.

The following link is my personal critique of GNU/Linux. It is very critical of GNU and various open source organizations (including KDE). I think it may be of some interest to members in this forum or anyone considering migrating from the Closed/Microsoft world to GNU/Linux. I hope the developers here don't simply write it off but find something of value in this assessment.

Hi Orang_Gila, your article is written by an anonymous. Am I wrong that the true cause is that nobody could identify you as a Microsoft-employee ? At least the style and so called arguments are well known as comming from Microsoft public relation team. Am I wrong ?

Hi zlisiecki,

You are wrong; I am not from Microsoft. I dislike the monopoly control of both Apple & Microsoft, as is made clear near the end of that report. Also remember I only gave "Closed/Microsoft" a 67% value rating at most. Yes, you are right - I am using an "anonymous" name (which means "crazy person" in Indonesian). I think anonymity and privacy are very precious things these days, as expressed in my report. My motivation for putting this information out there was not to bring down GNU/Linux but to encourage better usability for averge folks/non-programmers and more collaboration. If I had read such a report or had been properly warned about the realities/what to expect from GNU/Linux 18 months ago, I would have probably opted to stay in the proprietary world (much as I hate it), but here I am still slugging it out with user issues in GNU/Linux - this is my current frustration: kmail (2)

Oh, I understand. But I can similarily warn you to read so called objective reports about Linux/KDE without a serious discussion with a Linux specialist. If you are above 16 you know that corporate world applies public relation techniques, which normal people call just lies.

For a Kmail situation you'll find my opinion here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=102481 . As you see still a corporate world influence is not excluded here.

Just money is money, you know. To give you an example: In a popular radio program I heared a professor reporting his investigations due to which coffee is good for long-living. After serious objections I heard a week later the same wording in a program devoted to tee drinking. Then after some time I found a much deeper explanation on the internet showing that the investigations were sponsored by some tee company. One could expect that both radio programs were sponsored too. How could you know if your reports warning about Linux were sponsored either ?
