Hello there,
I'm running openSuse 12.1 and switched recently to KDE 4.9 together with Calligra 2.5, Telepathy 0.4.1 and Amarok 2.6. With this posting I want to thank everybody for their effort. Above setup is the best KDE Desktop I ever experienced. Everything is running very fast and absolutely stable. Very very cool! Surely there are a lot of corners that still need some polishing (eg. the green telepathy status icon in the otherwise beautiful monochrome icon tray, the Konqueror statusbar appearance or krdc using rdesktop instead of freerdp), but there are no more major shortcomings in my opinion. You can see everywhere that the rough work is done and polishing gains a lot of attention. So thank you very much for a fast, stable and beautiful desktop experience. Despite other rumors on the web I would say that the future looks very bright for Linux on the desktop (or tablet of phone or whatever)! Regards, Jens PS: Just in case, I do use Kmail, akonadi, nepomuk etc and I like the architecture. (In my opinion it is not that much different than other desktops, If you want an integrated desktop you need some kind of central storage for pim stuff like akonadi or evolution data server or whatever apple is using.) PPS: Recently I gave Gnome Shell (OpenSuse 12.2RC)a run in a Virtual Box, these guys are doing a very cool job as well. Their vision is very different from KDE (may be like Android vs Apple), but Gnome Shell with some extensions would do the job for me as well. PPPS: I'm glad I could give something back with sponsoring a few euros for the next Randa meeting. |

I agree with you. KDE users are very happy with 4.9 release!
Personaly, I can't tell for other distros + KDE 4.9, but openSUSE 12.1 + KDE 4.9 is best Linux Desktop that I ever tried. Can't wait for openSUSE 12.2 + KDE4.9. Thanks to all contributors! |
