I was just google searching for KDE 5.0 news and couldn't come up with much apart from a loose roadmap announcement in early August last year (mainly detailing KDE Frameworks 5.0).
I was wondering if anything else had firmed up twelve months down the line? Any details end users can gasp excitably at, etc? Thanks. |

There are no plans for KDE SC 5.0.
Even when Frameworks 5 are mature enough, nobody is planning to call the workspace '5.0'. Currently, the plan is to stick with the 4.x version numbers for the foreseeable future. |

That would be why I couldn't find any information about a version '5.0' then

Exactly, they are not entirely true, or at least the wording is wrong in most parts.
First, there is no such thing as KDE x.x, it is KDE SC x.x . The current version is KDE SC4.9, 4.10 betas are also already out. Then, there is ongoing work on KDE Frameworks 5.0, which has nothing to do with the version numbering of the apps you probably use on a daily base. Just like ivan already said. KDE SC 4.10 is about to be released in January next year. So, the articles you referenced state KDE 5.0, which will not happen at all. These titles are missleading. |
