Hi, recently I find a plasmoid called "quick preview",it is a very userful when we browse our files, it is something like the quickview in the Leopard. But the pity is that when I want to get a "quick" preview, I have to drag the object onto the plasmoid which is placed on the desktop, the operation itself, howevere, is really not "quick".
----------------------------------------------------- So A proposal is that we should replace the "infomation" with a "quick preview" this fucntionality is very useful, especailly when I found that the information panel is not handy. when we want to preview thinngs in a directory, we usually change the view to "icon", choose different icon size according to the need and our taste. It is an easy and clear way to get a overall sight about what this directory contains. when we want to preview some specific object, the "icon" view is not neccessay, and not clear enough too. What we need is a much bigger view window along with several basic operation(such as resize, browse). The existed "infomation" panel is not useful, because it dispays previews of all objects and the preview effect is not so satisfied. Also you'll sense "delay" when the focused object changed, and it is not a good feeling. So A proposal is that we should replace the "infomation" with a "quick preview" ----------------------------------------------------- the secod proposal is: the "column" view should always place the current directory to the middle of the dolphin window(I mean, the middle of all the columns diplayed), so the use can easily know the directory context. Knowing the context(the parent directory content and the son directory content of the selected directory) and can easily navigate forward and backward, is a great vantage compared with other kinds of views. ![]() ----------------------------------------------------- I hope I've expressed my idea clearly,if not,plz let me know! ![]() The dophin is a very good manager, but it still has much to do to make itself a great one:) -----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, could you please post a link to the quick preview plasmoid, but the first proposal sounds good. Seems that your wish goes in the direction of more intelligent generation of informations and action.
Sorry, but I did not get what you mean in your second proposal. Could you be more specific or create some images to clarify it? Cheers, m. ![]() code | cia.vc | donating KDE | wishlist |

I think the shortage of the column view now in dolphin is:
when I click some folder or input the address directly, and I get my target in the view. But the shortage is this column that dolphin displays is just in the most left position, and so I can not know the contents its parent directory owns. For instance: home > Doc > biz, they are all folders. when I opened the "Doc" directly, I will get the "Doc" column at the most left position, so I can not see the contents in the "home" position. What I'd like to see is the "Doc" locates itself in the middle column. But, after some more consideration, I think the key point is that if the user really cares the context when they entered one folder directly but not navigate along the path:) |
