I have run Kubuntu for over a year and one problem keeps creeping in..lag! Looking at my specs in my sig it should take a lot to cause my system to lag. Instead using 50% ram, 50% CPU and an unknown percent of sad bandwidth over the sata3 bus, my kubuntu lags or freezes the entire system. The same work load under windows won't dent the usability. Now I realize the problem is my fault, not the Kubuntu devs. I have seen reference to this problem before and it seems limited to Kubuntu. I feel I have learned a lot about Linux over the past year and feel I am ready to move on to a new distro. I was thinking maybe Arch or Chakra. One thing for sure is I am sticking to KDE as my DE, but the nature of Arch looks interesting. Plus I like the idea of keeping programs more up to date withoout relying on PPAs, but I wonder if this would be a more cutting edge approach and possibly less stable? Just wonder if any one could give me some use full feedback and correct any misinformation/impressions I have posted.

Have you thought about SolydXK? Its Debian Testing based, pretty up to date software - Libre Office is up to version 4.x for example. Not cutting edge per say, but not outdated either.
Its pretty quick and stable as well. |
